Available as a 5.5-inch two-way (RM1™) and a 6.7-inch two-way (RM2™) the Digidesign® RMS monitors incorporate innovation in almost every aspect of their design—from amplifier topology to acoustics and the deployment of advanced digital signal processing. Key technologies employed in Digidesign RMS monitors include the following:Advanced Transmission Line Technology Digidesign RMS monitors employ PMC`s Advanced Transmission Line (ATL™) technology which combines sophisticated cabinet engineering proprietary drive unit and crossover components and patented absorption materials to deliver enormous benefits over sealed and ported designs. As a result Digidesign RMS monitors deliver improved audio resolution with a higher sound pressure level reduced distortion flat frequency response and deeper more defined bass frequencies than other speaker designs of similar size. And since the frequency response remains consistent at all volumes there is no need to crank the volume in order to achieve maximum bass response.Bass Port Emulation Although ATL technology provides a more accurate bass response than traditional ported designs PMC and Digidesign engineers developed a unique Bass Port Emulation feature that allows the monitors to emulate the tonal characteristics associated with ported bass reflex speakers. As a result the Digidesign RMS monitors make it easy to hear a mix as it truly sounds as well as how it translates to a ported speaker. With the Bass Port Emulation off the frequency response is flat and free of any additional coloration.Onboard DSP Engine Both monitors benefit from a 48-bit fixed-point digital signal processing (DSP) engine that manages various tasks including the monitors` complex frequency crossover speaker positioning EQ settings trim level and Bass Port Emulation.The two-way DSP-based digital crossover features revolutionary steep and pure filter designs that ensure an exceptionally clean transition with virtually zero phase shift between the two drivers` response curves and roll-off rates. The net result is the ideal transition between the high frequency and low frequency drivers as well as superb phase response over a wider listening window.Superior Analogue-Controlled Class D Amplification Each driver in RMS monitors is powered by independent analogue-controlled Class D amplifier which combines the efficiency and size advantages of digital amplifiers with the precision control and sound quality of audiophile linear amplifiers. The power amplifier section within each speaker is 92% efficient in comparison with a linear Class A amplifier which generally operates at around 50% efficiency. This means more power for the speakers and less escaping in the form of heat. Acknowledging that much of todays production is carried out in acoustically untreated rooms the LSR4300 Series isthe ?rst professional monitor to combine JBLs Linear Spatial Reference technology and automated RMC™ Room Mode Correction an onboardsystem that automatically compensates for low frequency anomalies measuredat the mix position. The LSR4300 enhances computer-based production by incorporating system-wide volume control input source selection individual speaker solo and user EQ. Harman Hi Qnet™ Network protocol enables centralized system-wide control from any speaker wireless remote control and computer using LSR4300 Control Center Software.436H Low Frequency Transducer The 6.25" woofer utilizes a powerful shielded neodymium magnet of light weight which can be used in close proximity to CRT-type monitors with no interference. The transducer utilizes a copper-clad polepiece that improves high frequency output by reducing voice coil inductance. A copper ribbon voice coil ensures high sensitivity and a flux shorting ring stabilizes the magnetic field in the gap reducing distortion. Heat sinking has been placed close to the magnetic gap in order to draw out heat as efficiently as possibly. The cone is polymer coated for uniformity of response over the woofers passband.431G High Frequency Transducer The high frequency transducer has a treated silk diaphragm that produces uniform and smooth sound. Its flat ribbon aluminium voice coil ensures low moving mass and enables the transducer to achieve response out to 22k Hz. A light weight neodymium magnet structure with integral heat sinking along with Ferrofluid in the magnetic gap enable the transducer to produce high peak output levels with minimal power compression. If you think of a monitoring system as a kind of "lens" through which you hear sound the object is to have the lens be crystal-clear and transparent so that it imparts no coloration whatsoever to the signal being played back. However every loudspeaker system no matter how well designed interacts with the room in which it is installed. Lack of correct acoustic treatment (or worse yet lack of any treatment at all) can result in anomalies such as resonant frequencies and low-frequency "standing waves" - the aural equivalent to the lens being "smeared." Trying to create a mix in such an environment can be as frustrating and diffcult as trying to paint a masterpiece while blindfolded.JBLs exclusive second generation RMC Room Mode Correction technology is designed to solve the problem. A powerful onboard computer in each LSR4300 Series monitor automatically analyzes the frequency response of your room and compensates for low frequency inaccuracies in the listening space by precisely inserting filters so that low frequency signals arrive at the mix position with the intended frequency response. In effect the LSR4300 Series goes "beyond accurate" allowing you to eliminate the guess-work and create reliable mixes that translate to any environment. Additionally the RMC system trims the level of each speaker to compensate for differences in placement relative to the mix position ensuring balanced mixes.LSR Linear Spatial Reference Design Builds on the Linear Spatial Reference technology that has made this Series of studio monitors so popular in recording broadcast and postproduction facilities worldwide. The exact geometry of the wave guide the interaction of the woofer and tweeter and the ?nal assembly of the injection-molded parts has been redesigned from the ground up to provide accurate off-axis as well as on-axis listening within a window of +/-30 degrees horizontal +/- 15 degrees vertical. Attention to these critical aspects results in neutral mid and high frequency response at the mix position and a sound which is smooth and accurate in a wide variety of acoustic spaces.Surround Smart Once all monitors are in place RMC and Hi QNet automatically aligns the entire system setting relative volume so that the sound from all channels is balanced when it arrives at the mix position. The end result is precise imaging regardless of each monitors actual physical placement.In addition the ability to centrally control the volume of all the speakers is particularly useful in surround sound applications where the recording system does not provide a multi-channel monitor volume control or where adjustable volume is not available when using the mixing systems digital outputs. Similarly the ability to selectively mute or solo channels and to remotely switch between three digital and analog input sources enhances system capabilities by allowing you to monitor not only the main recording system but also any two additional connected sources such as DVD and CD players multi-channel processors and encode-decode units. This alleviates the need to purchase additional outboard monitoring hardware.Selectable Inputs In this age of digital workstations and control surfaces it isnt enough to simply provide an input jack. Offering three separate inputs: stereo high-resolution 96 k Hz AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital inputs as well as dual balanced analog XLR and 1/4-inch inputs with selectable +4d Bu / -10d BV sensitivity. This allows it to accommodate a wide range of input sources including digital workstations CD players DVD players and multi-channel processors.
