Cary Grant - An Affair To Remember/ Kiss Them For Me/ People Will Talk/ Born To
    Choices UK Product Information
Box-set containing four movies starring Cary Grant. In 'An Affair to Remember' (1957), Grant and Deborah Kerr star as a playboy and a nightclub singer who embark on a shipboard romance and eventually fall completely in love with each other. They decide to make a pact that when they arrive to their separate homes, they will end their respective relationships, and rendezvous in six months' time at the top of the Empire State Building. The course of true love, however, never does run smoothly. A remake of the 1939 film 'Love Affair' the film was nominated for 3 Oscars, for cinematography, music and the title song. 'Kiss Them For Me' (1957) is a wartime comedy starring Cary Grant, Ray Walston and Larry Blyden as three navy war heroes who've been booked on a morale-building 'vacation' in San Francisco. Eluding their ulcerated public relations officer (Werner Klemperer), the trio arranges a wild party with plenty of pretty girls including Gwinneth (Suzy Parker) and Alice (Jayne Mansfield). 'People Will Talk' (1951) is a classic drama starring Grant as Dr. Praetorius, an unorthodox medical professor at a sedate midwestern college who seems more interested in the human soul than the cold facts of the human body. Praetorius falls in love with one of his students, an unmarried pregnant girl (Jeanne Crain). At the climactic hearing concerning Praetorius' fitness, the presiding judge (Basil Ruysdael) decides that Praetorius' 'modern' methods are more worthwhile than the pragmatic, cut-and-dried theories of his enemies. Finally 'Born To Be Bad' (1950) stars Joan Fontaine as Christabel Caine, a woman who adopts a facade of wide-eyed sweetness for the benefit of her wealthy husband Curtis (Zachary Scott) and his family. However, she is bored with her husband and starts an affair with novelist Nick (Robert Ryan). All her carefully crafted calculations come a cropper when both men discover that she's a bitch among bitches.

    The Deer Hunter
    £14.49

    The Deer Hunter
    MovieMail Ltd Product Information
Three friends from a Pennsylvanian steelworks, Michael (Robert De Niro), Steven (John Savage) and Nick (Christopher Walken), volunteer for service in Vietnam. Over the course of the war the trio are captured by the Vietcong and forced to play Russian Roulette for their captors' entertainment. Michael and Steven manage to escape, and the latter is shipped home, disabled and bitter. When Michael also returns, to a hero's welcome, he discovers that Nick has remained in Vietnam, sending money to Steven without any explanation. With Saigon about to fall at any moment, Michael decides to return to Vietnam to bring his friend back. Few films have ever found a more dramatic, incisive and ultimately iconic metaphor for the experience of men in war than the famous Russian roulette scene. Touching on many themes - individuals and communities shattered and scarred by the horrors of war, rite-of-passage myths, chance and destiny, blue collar America's loss of innocence, The Deer Hunter remains above all an intensely detailed and touching portrayal of individuals - their friendships, and the trials that not all are able to endure. It won five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.
