Two passionate and more agitated interjections punctuate the course of the piece, with the lowest of the bass notes, which are sparingly used, occuring at the main climax. A tender and melancholy reminder of the opening material leads the work to a gentle close.

'Park of Idols' was commissioned by Leonid Gorokhov and Richard Hand, who gave the first performance at the Keele Concert Society on 9th November 2005. 'Park of Idols' was commissioned by Leonid Gorokhov and Richard Hand, who gave the first performance at the Keele Concert Society on 9th November 2005.When I was putting 'Park of Idols' together, I asked Leonid and Richard for the names of musicians, composers, albums and pieces that they particularly admired or enjoyed. The wide-ranging list that came back helped to shape this diverse collection of six musical tributes.The opening movement, 'Jump Start'' is a quirky homage to Frank Zappa. 'Cold Dark Matter' borrows its name from Cornelia Parker's 1991 artwork that comprises the ragged fragments of the remains of a garden shed destroyed in a controlled explosion - familiar objects are seen from an unfamiliar perspective. 'Fractured Loop' is built out of re-ordered cuttings from a Pat Metheney guitar solo superimposed over a cello pizzicato bass line and 'Malabar Hill' is a reworking of a Mahavishnu Orchestra track by John Mc Laughlin. The fifth movement 'The Raw' is for solo guitar and draws on the harmonic idiom of Allan Holdsworth. 'Sharjah' is a tribute to the prog rock band King Crimson where the cellist imitates the guitar style of Robert Fripp.

Recorded at the Queen Hall Bradford England on 4th November 1989 to coincide with the release of Paradise Lost's debut album Lost Paradise Live Death demonstrates just why Peaceville Records were so eager to sign them. Pioneers of the Death Metal movement the band went on to become one of the biggest names on the European Heavy Metal scene. There trademark bleak attitude helped inspire a generation of Goth-Metal hybirds fuelling the burgeoning 'mosher' scene and opening the doors on a distinctly morbid legacy.Paradise Lost were formed in Halifax in 1988 and were signed to Peaceville on the strength of just one demo recording. Lost Paradise sold steadily and earned them a firm and loyal fan base that continued to grow. The second album Gothic was released to critical acclaim and became a benchmark album on the Death Metal scene. The commercial success of Gothic lead to Paradise Lost being picked up by record label Music For Nations and further successes both in the studio and on the international live circuit. Available for the first time on DVD this legendary recording at last brings you not only visuals of the band in their near infancy but at last you can hear the live sound as it was meant to be heard. GBH - Birmingham's finest emerged early on in the second wave of punk rock and were quick to establish themselves as one of the most exhilarating bands on the scene. Within months they had amassed a huge and loyal following that still thrives to this day. Their hard hitting albums and singles gave them UK indie chart success which was quick to bring them acclaim and commercial success abroad. They became the ultimate headline band on the international punk circuit and always delivered the goods in spades.On 11th and 12th of November 1988 they played The Celebrity Theatre in Anaheim LA for two nights. Opening the Saturday show were fellow Brits the Adicts during whose set a stage dive ended in serious injury and resulted in a sudden and oppressive police presence. They demanded the show be cancelled and officers with dogs surrounded the auditorium. Heated arguments ensued which led to the band's manager 'Jimmy Wren' being arrested a ten minutes of unparalleled intensity. The words 'police riot' were murmured as the PA guy started taking down the microphones and the audience began to climb the barriers. With few seconds to spare a stagehand appeared and announced the band could play a short set. It was an absolute blazer!For the first time that infamous night is available on DVD in all its wild glory. Coupled with that there is also rare footage from 1983 filmed live at the Victoria Hall Hanley UK.
