Colour: Pale and clear light yellow with subtle lime hints. Nose: White nectarine, pear and white flowers dominate also citrus fruit and tangerine. Fresh herbs and mineral notes at the back. Palate: Light body with fresh acidity at the beginning followed by a round and concentrated mid palate. Long and fresh finish. Service and food pairing: Serve chilled as an aperitif. Also the ideal companion for appetizers and sea food in general. open and serve well chilled at 8-10°C. Harvest: Hand-harvested early in the morning, in small baskets of 12 kgs. 2009 could be characterized by a very cold and dry winter with very little water. Because of these conditions the bud break was delayed approximately one week. The spring was drier and temperatures were more extreme. Flowering conditions were good and grape set was on time. The summer was drier than normal. The veraison occurred late, around January 20th, but was very quick. The maturation was early. With our intense vineyard management (3 or 4 green harvests plus already low yields) and the exceptional weather conditions, we started the harvest of the Sauvignon Blanc in Requinoa by end of February. The acidity is more intense than in previous vintages and we decided to pick all the Sauvignon Blanc within two weeks in our Las Kuras vineyard, which is now 100% organic certified. Vinification: All the grapes were transported in refrigerated containers to the winery. Natural decantation occurred in stainless steel tanks. All the wine went through a 3-4 weeks low temperature fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 15°C , followed by a 4 months ageing on lees in vats. Grape: 90% Sauvignon Blanc, Las Kuras Vineyard and 10% Semillon, Apalta.

TheDrinkShop Product Information
Very deep crimson in colour. Sweet, spicy aromas of violets, forest hints, dusty mulberries and blueberries with cedar and fruit cake. A lush, concentrated, sweet ripe palate layered with great texture and fruit flavours; intense and complex. Excellent depth and structure, fine-grained tannins and a very long finish. Stephen and Prue Henschke, fifth-generation winemakers at the family cellars at Keyneton, selected Lenswood in 1981 as a new vineyard site, just 50km from their ancient Mount Edelstone and Hill of Grace vineyards. At 550m, the Lenswood vineyard slopes offer not only beautiful views over the older vine country, but also higher rainfall and humidity at the right time of the year, cooler temperatures to retain natural acidity, and still enough sunshine to fully ripen the grapes. The Abbotts Prayer label links together the history, religion and pioneers of this mountainous region. This property along Coldstore Road, including the vineyard, was pioneered by T N Mitchell, the first settler, and was originally known as Abbotts Flat. Vineyards were previously established in this area in the late 1800s. Vintage 2005 was early, warm, quick, fantastic quality with good yields - and exhausting. Above average winter rains led into a beautiful spring, with some early November frosts but good flowering weather in late November and early December. Summer was wet and wild, with an amazing roller-coaster of weekly thunderstorms that helped maintain good subsoil moisture. Rains in January were followed by a dry February, and the dry weather continued right through the autumn. Warmer than usual autumnal weather caused an early, compact harvest of above average yields. The late Indian summer lasted into May, well after all the fruit was harvested, at maturity figures, flavour and colour not seen before the 2002 vintage. The quality of the 2005 vintage is sure to be ranked as one of the best on record, after 2002, with all varieties showing strongly. Once again the signature varieties for Eden Valley, ie, riesling and shiraz, performed brilliantly. Cellaring Potential: Exceptional vintage, drink now to 2015. Serving Idea: Asian salad of seared pigeon breast. Grape: 64% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Bright gold-green in colour. Sweet, lifted ripe and complex with pear drop, peach, clove, spice, cashew nut and hints of grapefruit and lemon. A rich full complex concentrated and intense palate with layers of flavours, mineral and apricot kernel, good acidity and texture with excellent depth and length. 100% chardonnay grapes grown on Sstephen and Prue Henschke’s Lenswood vineyard in the Adelaide Hills. Stephen and Prue Henschke pioneered Lenswood as a vineyard site in the Adelaide Hills in 1981. At 550 metres, the Lenswood vineyards offer not only beautiful views over the older vine country but also higher rainfall and humidity at the right time of the year, cooler temperatures to retain high natural acidity, and still enough sunshine to fully ripen the grapes. The chardonnay vineyard has taken its name from the adjoining Croft Road. Frederick Croft, an orchardist, took up a neighbouring property in 1938. The 2007 vintage shaped up to be another high quality year but with significantly reduced yields in Eden Valley and average yields in the Adelaide Hills. The highly publicised drought of 2006 has been reported as the worst ever. Certainly the rainfall at Eden Valley for the three months of winter at only 90mm compared to the average of 200mm was one of our driest. Despite an early winter break, rainfall during winter and spring was the worst for years in the lead-up to flowering. There was significant spring frost damage in Eden Valley, with a yield loss of 20-25%, compounded by the drought and lack of subsoil moisture with overall losses of up to 50% expected. Brief heat waves occurred during January; otherwise it was mild and dry. At the end of January a tropical air mass connected with a cold front to bring good rains to the agricultural areas of South Australia, with flooding up north. The 70mm rainfall fell steadily over four days, coinciding with veraison, which freshened up the vine canopy to assist with ripening the fruit for harvest. February has been recorded as the hottest for 100 years, bringing the already reduced crop to an earlier ripening phase. The vintage began three to four weeks early, one of the earliest on record, remaining dry and mild allowing for good maturity. All the whites were picked by the end of March and the reds by the third week in April, a record early finish. In summary, a vintage with low yields but very good quality. Cellaring Potential: Exceptional vintage, drink now to 2012.

Pale crimson ruby in colour. Lifted aromas of sweet, fragrant, spicy cherries and cream with vanilla, toasted cashews, tomato stem and sappy hints. The soft and juicy, supple, layered palate is medium weight and shows sweet strawberry/cherry fruits, delicate structure and fine tighter-style velvety tannins finishing with good length. Excellent to Exceptional white vintage with below average yields. Matured on lees in 40% new and 60% used French barriques for 9 months prior to blending and bottling. Stephen and Prue Henschke, fifth-generation winemakers at Kkeyneton, selected Lenswood in 1981 to pioneer a new vineyard site, just 50km from their ancient Mount Eedelstone and Hill of Grace vineyards. At 570m, the Lenswood vineyard slopes offer not only beautiful views towards the older vine country but also higher rainfall and humidity at the right time of the year, cooler temperatures to retain natural acidity, and still enough sunshine to fully ripen the grapes. The pinot noir vineyard has been named after Charles Giles, an early pioneer whose descendants have managed the property as an apple orchard since 1864. The 2006 vintage shaped up as another high quality year but with only average yields in the Eeden Valley and Adelaide Hills. After a late break in mid-June 2005, winter and spring rains were some of the best for years in the lead-up to flowering in early summer. Some varieties, such as riesling and shiraz, suffered more than others from poor set, leading to hen and chicken. While there was some damage in Valley from frost, this had only a minor impact on the overall yield; however, yields in most varieties were down by 15-20%.The summer was mild with southerly winds, reminiscent of 2002. Brief heat waves occurred in late January and mid-February but were early enough not to affect quality, with only minor sunburn on exposed fruit.Whites were nearly all picked by the end of March, an unusual situation. Very good vintage, drink now to 2011.

The shiraz, grenache, mourvèdre, viognier blend is a tribute to Henry Evans who planted the first vineyard of seven acres at Keyneton in 1853. He quickly developed a reputation for producing the best wines in the southern colony. Following Henry’s death in 1868 his widow Sarah exercised her temperance convictions by closing the winery and uprooting all the winegrapes. This blend highlights the historical introduction of southern French and Spanish varieties to South Australia in those early pioneering days and reflects the history, religion and culture of the Barossa. The 2006 vintage shaped up as another high quality year but with only average yields in the Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills. After a late break in mid June 2005, winter and spring rains were some of the best for years in the lead-up to flowering in early summer. Very deep crimson/black in colour. A complex sweet, spicy nose showing lifted fragrant aromas of plum and blackberry with hints of sage and pepper supported by toasty oak. The intensely fruited palate exhibiting dark berries is complex and fleshy with great structure, velvety tannins and a long finish. Great vintage, drink now to 2016. Serving Idea: Pan-roasted rib-eye steak with red wine and parsnip mash. In 1912 Ronald Angas planted the sandy loam slopes of Mount Edelstone with shiraz. Located high in the Eden Valley region this vineyard came to be known as Mount Edelstone meaning gemstone. The 90-year-old ungrafted dry-grown vines from this historic single vineyard are low yielding, producing a depth of colour, concentration of flavour, length and maturity of tannins unique to old-vine shiraz. Mount Edelstone has achieved a formidable reputation since its first vintage in 1952. The 2006 vintage shaped up as another high quality year but with only average yields in the Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills. After a late break in mid-June 2005, winter and spring rains were some of the best for years in the lead-up to flowering in early summer.
