He used the piano extensively when composing, and the recordings present a fascinating insight into the composer's genius, referencing his work on the never-completed piano concerto and other themes in five remarkably cohesive and memorable pieces.Although these recordings were eventually released in 1975, there has not, until now, been a printed transcription of this music available. In this edition, Iain Farrington has skilfully transcribed Elgar's playing to reconstruct the five pieces, making a significant addition to the Elgar piano repertoire.

These three improvisations were played by Alb‚niz in 1903 and recorded on a phonograph cylinder. They have here been carefully reconstructed and printed for the first time. The original recording is included on a CD. The only surviving original recording of Alb‚niz' Piano playing is from 1903. On a visit to Ruperto Regordosa Planas he had sat down at the former's Piano and improvised three short pieces. Planas recorded the music on a phonograph cylinder. The pieces were, however, never written down on paper. With the help of modern technical resources, Milton Laufer, an expert on Alb‚niz, has been able to carefully reconstruct the musical text. This first printing of the transcription thus enables us to have a unique 'peep through the keyhole' into the workshop of the gifted pianist and composer. As a little extra, we have included this fascinating recording on a CD with the first issue of this printing.

Since his death in 1972, Davis's influence has continued to grow as each new generation of guitarists discovers the excitement of his music. As a teenager, Woody Man studied privately with the master. In this program he teaches six of the Reverend's ragtime and gospel originals note-for-note, just as Davis taught him; detailing and explaining the picking techniques, chord positions, and fine points of phrasing. Woody explores syncopated picking ideas, new approaches to chords and melodies, and explains how to apply Davis's method for creating endless variations and improvisations within a song. Additionally, fingerpicking techniques taught in Ragtime and Gospel can be applied to a variety of musical styles and genres. Near beginners to advanced players will benefit from this approach. Woody Mann had his first schooling as a teenager in the living room of Rev. Gary Davis, the now legendary gospel and ragtime guitarist. The second version presents the elementary theme along with the original harmonic figuring which is the 'raw material' used for composing all arrangements. By using these two versions, pianists will be able to analyze the melodic and harmonic improvements added to the piano arrangement, as well as practice their own improvisations on the themes. Piano teachers will also find in this volume a good basic repertory to introduce Blues to their students. The playful aspect is added to this anthology by way of the midi-files which accompany the mixte CD (CD audio and CD rom) offering the possibility to listen to the pieces in midi by using the sound card of a computer. In addition, it is possible to change the sounds and the tempis with appropriate equipment (e.g. sequencer, score editors and others). You can also easily play in loop passages.
